10 Questions to Ask Your Appleton Senior Photographer

1. How does this whole thing work? (what’s their process)

It’s so important to understand what you’re getting yourself into. Sounds straightforward, but this is often overlooked. You should know exactly what’s going to happen, when and where. And have them explain what a session is like! I have my whole process laid out on my Senior page (click here to view) and I answer all questions that come my way. I want to make sure that all of my Seniors know exactly what is going to happen.

2. How many outfit changes do you get?

Not all photographers offer unlimited outfit changes. It’s important to know how many you are able to do in your session time so that you can plan outfits. I suggest for an hour session you have 2-3 outfit changes and for a two hour session I suggest 3-4 changes. I know you want to do a bunch of different looks and styles, but the more outfit changes you do the less time you have in front of the camera. I have TONS of suggestions to offer to help give you different looks without doing numerous changes.

3. How many locations do you get with your senior session?

This varies for each photographer, but if you are wanting to do more than one location make sure this is something they can do. I honestly have no preference. I usually do one location, but I make sure that there are plenty of photo ops at this one epic location. I will travel to more than one location though, just know that travel fees may apply.

4. Who handles the yearbook photo?

At some point, a yearbook photo will need to be submitted. Your high school will send you an email with information regarding yearbook photo information. Typically those photos need to be resized and submitted so that they will print properly. Will your photographer submit the photo for you? Or will they send you the digital image and then you submit it? Each photographer is different, but it’s important you ask so you both have an understanding who is going to manage that task.

5. What is your turnaround time?

This answer can vary honestly, it depends on the time of year, but this will at least give you a heads up to when you can expect to see your images. I typically try to deliver galleries within two weeks of your session.

6. How do you deliver your images?

Most photographers deliver their images from an online gallery. Just make sure that it’s easily accessible for you to share with your family and friends. I have an online gallery for each of my clients and will send you your gallery information once I have completed your gallery.

7. What if there is bad weather?

Living in Wisconsin, I feel like no one can predict the weather. However, a photographer should have information about rescheduling for instances when the weather is terrible. If the weather is terrible and we absolutely cannot do our session, I reschedule at no extra cost.

8. Do you offer retouching services?

Some photographers do minimal work to their photos and others do offer these services. Ask what is included in your package and to what extent. Ask for a quote if you need extensive touching up. Your proof gallery is delivered softly edited, meaning I go through some basic things and apply my style to your images. However, things like blemishes, that one wacky hair, etc those are not taken care of until I complete your final images.

9. Do you have back up equipment?

Technology is not always our friend and sometimes it can fail. An experienced photographer will have extra gear with them as back up in case something happens. I do bring extra batteries, chargers, cameras and lenses to our session. I almost never need to use them, but I have it with me just in case. You can never be too prepared.

10. Are we able to order additional digital images or prints?

Every photographer is different. Some just do digitals, some do prints, some offer artwork and some do it all. My collections include digital images, however you will be able to purchase prints and artwork from your gallery.
