I had the chance to chat with the owner of Aesthetics Layne, Haley. Below you’ll find more details about the business, her makeup services, other beauty services and more!
I was the friend who knew all things makeup. Whether it was from watching youtube tutorials to trying out new looks on myself in middle/high school, I was always learning and trying new makeup tricks! I professionally started doing makeup when I was in aesthetics school in 2021. During that time, I became a certified makeup artist and learned some of the most important tips you never think about as a non professional, for example sanitation. After graduating aesthetics school, I invested in an extensive makeup kit for my clients. I quickly started booking makeup services for weddings, high school dances, senior photos, etc. Since 2021, I have taken additional courses each year pertaining to different makeup trends, skin types, and ages.
Although I prefer traditional makeup application techniques for most of my clients, I also offer airbrush makeup upon request. I prefer traditional techniques because I can better control how much product is applied on parts of the face. I love to do more of a natural look on most clients, and applying foundation and concealer in light layers is crucial for this look. Because of this, I tend to lean more towards traditional versus airbrush!
This isn’t necessarily a tool, but I cannot be without my disposables and isopropyl alcohol. Disposables such as lip applicators, cotton rounds, or mascara wands are a must-have in my makeup kit. Having disposables in my makeup kit ensures that I am sanitary with everything I do. If I was getting my makeup done by a professional, the last thing I’d want is to get an infection or an illness from sharing lipstick or mascara with every one of their past clients. Isopropyl alcohol is also key in sanitizing all powders and other products I use.
I tend to lean towards a natural, effortless makeup look. I do offer soft glam, so more of a bold eye, but I prefer to accentuate my clients natural features that make them still feel like themselves. From being in different situations working with other artists, I can tell most of their style is doing the exact same look on everyone, despite their different features. I try to customize from client to client. For example, if someone has oily skin, I won’t use the same foundation on them compared to someone who has dry skin. Everyone’s features are different, and I love to accentuate their natural, God given features versus trying to make something appear that wasn’t naturally there in the first place!
Some of my favorite makeup looks have been on my high school clients! I absolutely offer homecoming, prom, and senior photo makeup! I can travel to their location (fees added depending on location), or they can come to my esthetics studio located near downtown Appleton, WI. I am all about booking in advance, as soon as you book your photography session with Ashley, reach out to me via my website, email, or by phone! We will come up with an appointment time, and I will be your go to for skincare prep questions, or advice on what look to go with for your session!
Not only am I a certified makeup artist, but I am also a licensed esthetician! I offer customized skincare treatments, eyelash lift + tints, eyebrow laminations, facial waxing, and some body waxing! My studio is set up for relaxation, meaning, every service you receive (minus makeup), includes a heated bed, plush blankets, and a relaxing environment to destress in. We all need a little “me” time, especially being a teen adjusting to new realities, it is good to create good habits and take care of yourself.
The biggest piece of advice I would say, is don’t over criticize yourself. The “flaws” you see on a day to day basis are most likely not as noticeable as you’d think. Heck, your biggest insecurity may be your loved one’s favorite part about you. The majority of my clients who walk into my studio are hyper aware of their “flaws” that I never would’ve noticed in the first place. A healthy mindset about how you look and feel in your own skin is crucial and is very attainable. Beginning each day with a simple skincare routine feels like a mini facial and is a little step towards a fresh new day ahead.
Everyone loves looking tan, trust me I get it. I was the same in high school. The majority of older clients I have wish they would have applied their sunscreen more often and avoided tanning. A great alternative to tanning beds and sun tanning is self tanning or airbrush tanning with a professional. 90% of a person’s wrinkles are caused by the sun’s rays, this doesn’t include hyperpigmentation or skin cancer . Reduce your exposure now to age more healthily and avoid future health problems!
If someone is considering a makeup application for their senior session, or has questions about any of the services I offer, I am easiest to contact via email. However, clients can also reach out on social media or by phone!
