Milwaukee is a fun city full of history and amazing things to do! As a Milwaukee family photographer, families often ask me what I recommend for entertainment in the area. My family and I like to explore and try new things. Below is a list of our favorite things to do in Milwaukee to help you get your family adventure started.
10 Fun Things to do in Milwaukee With Your Family
Check Out the Harley Davidson Museum
The Harley Davidson Museum is one of my family’s favorite things to do in Milwaukee. We love riding together and experiencing that freedom feeling you can’t get anywhere else. Your family can spend hours looking at all the bikes on display, reading about Harley’s history and exploring all the exhibits. Their collection is extremely extensive and impressive. Some of our favorite things were the first Harley on display, the history of how Harleys have been used in American culture and Motor Bar & Restaurant. After your family is done walking through the museum make sure to grab a bite at the restaurant and get yourself a souvenir at the shop.
Catch a Milwaukee Brewers Game
Your family is sure to have a blast at American Family Field! First, plan on coming early and tailgate in the parking lot. Bring brats and bag toss to get the full effect haha. Before the game you can also check out the Walk of Fame area located by the plaza. I would also recommend trying the Bernie’s Slide Experience! You can actually ride down Bernie’s Slide, SO FUN! This only happens before select games, so call ahead if this is something you’d like to try.
If your family are diehard baseball fans, be sure to check out the Selig Experience located on the Loge Level. Discover the story of how former Brewers Owner Selig saved Major League Baseball in Milwaukee.
There are tons of attractions for baseball fans at American Family Field, but even if baseball isn’t your favorite sport you’re sure to have fun! During the game you’ll be entertained endlessly between innings with all kinds of on-field entertainment. The park is absolutely beautiful and one of the best ones I’ve visited (my sister and I want to try to visit all the MLB parks together).
Visit the Wisconsin State Fair
Everyone in your family, no matter their age, will find something they love here. This Wisconsin tradition is over 170 years old! There are 30 stages that feature different concert and comedy & educational shows. You’ll find thousands of animals with exhibits featuring demonstrations, agriculture education and renewable energy. There are so many other vendors displaying crafts, holding culinary competitions and so much more! And let’s not forget all of the different foods your family can indulge in! Seriously, your family will get lost in the maze of food vendors. Everyone must try a cream puff, or your experience isn’t complete. Go Kayaking!
Get your family in the water and view the city from a different angle! You can kayak in the Milwaukee, Menomonee and Kinnickinnic Rivers and Lake Michigan. If you have your own kayak, there are a few places to launch your kayak. Otherwise, there are many different places you’re able to rent kayaks as well. Renting kayaks I personally think is the way to go, so you can take a guided tour. I love learning about the city’s history and meeting new people in the tours. It’s a totally unique experience your family is sure to love!
Grab Some Delicious Food at Milwaukee Public Market
I’m getting hungry just thinking about the Milwaukee Public Market haha. Your family will be able to try some of the most unique and tasty food! Inside you’ll find many food vendors that offer artisan and ethnic products made fresh. Your family can feast on seafood, pizza, salads, wraps, baked goods and other food from all over the world. Explore the Historic Third Ward – One of Top Favorite Things to do in Milwaukee
Take a stroll through the Historic Third Ward! Your family will love exploring this neat area in Milwaukee. It’s one of my favorite things to do in Milwaukee. You’ll find tons of amazing restaurants your family will crave! The streets are lined with many different cute boutiques, art galleries, specialty shops and theatres. Make sure to take a walk on the Riverwalk along the Milwaukee River. And make time for Lakeshore State Park too because the views are stunning!! Wander Through the Milwaukee Zoo
Your family will have a wild time at the zoo! This will keep your family entertained for hours. It’s absolutely huge and full of thousands of different animals from all over the world. You can catch a live show featuring some of their animals, go zip lining, take a ride on the safari train, feed a giraffe, play with the goats and so much more! Trust me this isn’t your average zoo experience and is something your family needs to explore!
Watch a Milwaukee Bucks Game
Your family needs to watch a Milwaukee Bucks Game! It’s something everyone should experience at least once. I would for sure plan on venturing through the Deer District outside of Fiserv Forum before going in for the game. There’s always some kind of entertainment going and is all part of the experience. Plus your family will have plenty of neat places for fun photo ops! Once inside you should walk around the arena and check out all the different views of the court and of course visit the souvenir shops. Your family will be entertained throughout the whole game as they do many different interactive games and contests with the crowd. This is sure to be a slam dunk with your family!
Check Out the Mitchell Park Domes
This is a plant lovers paradise! My family and I love working outside in our gardens and so this another one of our favorite things to do in Milwaukee. The Mitchell Park Domes are literally a museum of different living plants from all over the world. You can explore the 3 domes and many different greenhouses. Each has their own display, some even change throughout the year. If you can time it right, I would recommend catching a light show! It’s a super cool experience everyone in your family will enjoy. Play at Betty Brinn Children’s Museum
Looking for a fun experience that will inspire your kiddos? Check out the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum. Your children will have a blast exploring all the different interactive exhibits. It’s a great place for your kids to play and have fun, but they’ll also be learning about developmental skills. Honestly, that’s one of my favorite parks about children’s museums because learning doesn’t feel like work for them. It’s a fun and educational experience.
