Q&A with Kim of Events Everlasting in New London, WI

Can you please provide a short description of your business?

Events Everlasting is a business that offers wedding and event planning services along with rental and floral to add on to your events. We have expanded our floral design to an everyday floral studio and boutique in downtown New London

Can you share a bit about what inspired Events Everlasting?

As long as I could remember I wanted to be a wedding planner or at least in the wedding industry. The name was actually brainstormed by my boyfriend, now husband.

Why did you decide to open a business in New London?

When I first started working in the business full time I rented a small space in Fremont and quickly outgrew it. We needed to find a space large enough to store all our rental options and floral coolers. I have a few business friends in New London who suggested that I look in the city. I met with April from the Chamber and Chad from the city. They gave me a bunch of options and resources to find a new building.  We rented our first New London location and a couple years later we purchased our forever home of Events Everlasting.

Do you offer flower arrangements like bouquets or corsages for events like homecoming, prom and senior photo sessions? Are students able to customize them?

We absolutely offer all sorts of items for homecoming, prom, photo shoots, and everyday floral. We love working with the new trends like bouquets for prom, pocket boutonnieres, arm wraps, and all sorts of fun options! We love seeing pictures of your attire and matching your vibe.

Which is your favorite to make: bouquet, corsage or boutonniere? And why?

We love the fun bouquet trend! With our background being in weddings these are our specialty.

How do you help students choose flowers that match their outfits? Can students bring outfit photos for ideas?

We love seeing all the creative outfits and matching the flowers to the personality! We always suggest offering a florist choice for flowers because we thrive on creative freedom, however we are happy to try and use your favorite flowers and colors-its your day and want to make sure you feel comfortable and happy with the accessories!

How far in advance should students place their orders for prom, homecoming or senior photo session flowers?

Best to order at least a week or two before the dances-especially if you have specific customizations. If you order last minute the options can be quite limited.  For photoshoots, we always have single stems and bouquets available, however if you have specific flowers ordering at least a week or 2 before is best.

What tips do you have for keeping corsages and boutonnieres fresh throughout the night?

The most important thing to do is caring for the flowers before you wear them. Keep them in the fridge or a cool area. Fun fact, keeping them in a fridge away from produce will keep them fresher longer-since flowers are a produce item they will spoil quicker next to fruits or vegetables. Wait until right before pictures to put on the flowers to ensure they don’t get squished.  If you are a party animal and want to keep your flowers fresh perfect for after the dance-take the flowers off and put to the side.

Do you offer any extras, like ribbons, charms, or keepsakes, to make bouquet arrangements more special?

We almost always use ribbons for our corsages and have a large selection of colors to match your attire. We do keep pearls, jewels, and other extras like that on hand to customize your floral. If you have anything you would like tied into your bouquet, boutonniere, or corsage bring it in and we will make it work.

What is your favorite flower?

Personally my favorite flower is the peony. They aren’t always in season, so when we have them it reminds me to live in the moment and just enjoy them in the here and now.
