You’re approaching your senior year at Ripon High School, which means you’re getting ready for senior photos! As a senior photographer, I know that the process can feel overwhelming as there are so many things to think about like outfits, locations, props, choosing the right senior photographer, hair, makeup, etc. Below I’ve created a list of 3 props that you should include in your senior photos and why they’re amazing in photos to help you start planning.

First I’m going to recommend a gorgeous flower bouquet! Even if you plan on going to a wildflower field for your senior photography session, I think bringing a bouquet is a good idea. In my opinion there’s no such thing as too many flowers haha. But also bringing a bouquet will give us so many fun poses to try! It’s important to keep your hands busy if you’re wanting your photos to look more natural. By holding a bouquet you’ll be able to swing it around, hold it close to your body and play with the flowers. It’s also a good pop of color if you’re wearing a neutral color outfit. And it’s also a fun keepsake from your senior session. Your senior year at Ripon High School, only happens once!

If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with chairs haha. And there’s a good reason for that! They bring a special element to your session that you wouldn’t normally have at a location. No matter if you choose downtown Ripon or a field, I recommend bringing this prop to your senior session. Not only will we again have more poses to try, but we can also use it to bring out more of your personality. Choose a classic, wooden chair if you love a polished and elegant look. Or go for a pink velvet chair to add a fun pop of color! I have a collection of chairs for my clients to choose from and love bringing them to senior sessions.

Adding fun accessories to your senior session is always a good idea! These always add something personal to your photos and they’re the easiest to work with. Typically Ripon High School seniors bring jackets, sunglasses, hats, jewelry, etc to their session and wear the items for a few poses and then remove them. This is a great way to get a lot of variety in your portraits without spending a lot of time changing! Plus, you can already guess but accessories also give us more poses to try haha. We can play with your jacket, hang it on your shoulder, drape it over your shoulders and more! We can tilt your hat, hold the sides of it, throw it up in the air and everything in between. Accessories are one of my favorite props I recommend seniors bring to their senior photo session.
While I think including all of these props would elevate your senior portraits, don’t feel like you have to do every single thing I suggested. Even incorporating a couple of these ideas would really add to your session and experience. Props are a great way to change up your posing, incorporate your personality and bring something special to your session to help your Ripon High School senior photos stand out.
If you’re looking for more suggestions and want help planning your dream senior photo session, I would love to work with you! Look through my senior portfolio and let’s start planning together!
