Below you’ll find my guide to senior photos for guys that’s packed full of tips and advice so your session runs smoothly and is super fun!

The Ultimate Guide to Appleton East High School Senior Portraits for Guys

Props for Your Senior Photos

First things first, I want you to think if there’s anything specific you or your son would like to include in his session. And for everything this is totally different. Some senior boys want to include a sport and their Appleton East Patriot jersey, some want to bring their pet dog and some want to show off their vinyl collection. Props aren’t totally necessary, but they’re a great way to make your senior session more personable. Think about what’s most meaningful to your son and decide if it’s something you’d like to incorporate.

Choosing the Right Outfits for your Senior Pictures

Outfits are honestly one of the most important decisions you’ll make when it comes to your senior photos. They set the tone and vibe of the session so it’s crucial that you don’t wait until the last minute to figure them out. I love recommending at least 2-3 different outfits for my senior photography sessions. Choose one outfit that is super dressy, one that is business casual and one that shows your personality. You could also take this a step further if your son wants to show Patriots pride and include Appleton East’s school colors of blue, scarlet and white. Just try to keep the outfits simple. You could even choose a pair of khakis and jeans and then just interchange different tops to get different looks for his session!

What Type of Location Should You Use

Honestly, think about your son’s personality for locations. Does he generally gravitate towards the city or does he love nature vibes? In some cases, he may want both! And there’s honestly something to love about each of these. For instance you could start at Tellulah Park for some nature backdrops and then head downtown Appleton on College Ave for cityscapes! If your senior is up for adventure, I have tons of unique and out of the box locations I love offering to my senior clients! I really love offering something different so that your senior photos stand out.

What Month Should You Book Your Senior Photo Session

Typically the senior photo season is from May-October. There’s honestly not a bad time to schedule your session haha. It really just depends on what you want things to look like. May and June are great for those who like bright colors and mild temperatures. July and August are perfect for those who want peak summer and lots of wildflowers. September is probably my favorite month for senior portraits because the temperature is generally mild, but it has everything else summer has to offer! And October is wonderful for those that love fall colors. I would recommend looking at your calendar and choosing a time of year that’s generally slower for you so that you have time to plan and enjoy your session. This experience only happens once! Also keep in mind the yearbook photo deadline for Appleton East High School too.

Tips for Making the Most of your Appleton East High School Senior Photos

So guys generally aren’t super excited for their senior photo session. And that’s totally okay if it’s not your son’s thing haha. But there are some things I recommend doing to help your son feel more comfortable and excited about his portrait experience! First I would include him in the planning. I meet with all of my seniors before their session because it helps me get to know them, but we also get to talk about ideas for their pictures. It makes the experience more fun and they feel their opinion matters! I would also have your son help pick out outfits. He will be way more willing to cooperate if he has some say in what he wears, generally haha. And lastly I would ask him if there’s anything he would like to do for his session. Even if it’s taking some photos at the football field at Appleton East High School, including fishing or even his truck. Just something to make his photos feel more personal.
