I love keeping my family busy and going on adventures with them! One of our favorite places to explore together is Sheboygan! It’s absolutely beautiful and filled with the most gorgeous views. There are so many things to do in Sheboygan and all kinds of activities to keep everyone in the family entertained. As a family photographer, I often get asked about local recommendations for fun things to do with kids. So below I created a list of the top things to do in Sheboygan with your family.
This place is pure magic for your children! The Bookworm Gardens is a botanical garden that was created based upon children’s books. Wander through 7 acres of beautiful and creative gardens. Throughout the season, there are tons of different events your family is sure to enjoy like the Little Blue Truck Picnic and Happily Haunted Gardens. Bookworm Gardens is a place where books come to life!
This scenic park is the perfect location for your family’s next adventure! Located along Lake Michigan, your family will discover amazing sand dunes, beautiful beaches and plenty of wildlife! Your family can visit for the day or go camping at Kohler-Andrae. Make sure you visit Sanderling Nature Center located in the northern part of the park. I also suggest you walk through the Creeping Juniper Nature Trail and Dune Cordwalk. Other activities to try here are bicycling, boating, kayaking, fishing, hunting and swimming.
Your children are going to love spending time here! Above and Beyond Children’s Museum is filled with many different exhibits for all ages to enjoy. The museum focuses on creating fun ways for children to learn basic, developmental and creative skills. I love that this children’s museum also offers programs for disadvantaged children and even those with special needs. The staff are always super friendly and helpful.
If you’re looking for a great place to stay that has everything you’ll need in one spot, this is the resort for you! First, the Blue Harbor Resort is located on the beautiful Lake Michigan and has the most spectacular views. Inside your family will find an amazing waterpark featuring a lazy river, waterslides. cabanas, a surf simulator, tube slides and so much more! Blue Resort also has an arcade and miniature golf course. You’ll also find a cafe, snack bar, restaurant and bar and grill inside as well. Don’t forget to check out the spa too! This is something you need to check off your things to do in Sheboygan bucket list! The Lottie Cooper capsized off the shores of Sheboygan in 1894 and is a site to see! This ship was built in Manitowoc and was caught in a storm while transporting wood. It’s a cool place for the kiddos to check out some of Wisconsin’s history and see the remains of a an old sailing vessel.
Wander through 18 Indian burial mounds spread over 15 acres in this beautiful park. Explore the nature trail that winds through the property and make sure to check out the open mound that has an exposed burial and displays artifacts. It’s an interesting piece of history and is a great stop if you’re in the area!
This is an absolute must if your family loves the outdoors! There are many different charters you can hire to take your family fishing on Lake Michigan! This delicious chocolate store is a must stop! Victorian Chocolate Shoppe is decorated like an old time candy store and is filled with the most delicious chocolate smell. There are over 80 varieties of homemade chocolates and other different kinds of candies. Your sweet tooth will be happy you stopped!
Harbor Pointe will be a hole in one with your family! This mini golf course is super fun and located on the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan. This mini golf course has a nautical theme and will be sure to entertain everyone in your family no matter their skill level.
This amazing store is filled with tons of games ranging from board games to card games to educational games to party games. There are games for everyone no matter your age! Throughout the store there are demo games for guests to play and try out games. The staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is very welcoming. Make sure to check out their online calendar to view their upcoming events and special game nights!
This isn’t your average outdoor shop! This is a must stop for anyone craving adventure! They offer rentals and lessons from the rental dock located on the river. Surf and kiteboarding lessons include instruction, board, wetsuit and anything else needed. Browse through surfboards, paddle boards and any surf gear you may need.
This place is a ton of fun! This quarry lake is filled with inflatable play equipment for kids ages 6 and up. There is a shallow beach area, an inflatable slide and a mat for your littles to play in too! Your family can also try kayaking, paddle boarding, ride the bike trails and try their frisbee golf course. I recommend bringing some kind of shade if you plan on sitting on the beach while your kids play.
Get yourself a guide and cruise around Sheboygan in style! This is a fun way to explore the lakeside of the city and some of its more popular spots like the lighthouse and shipwreck remains. You’ll not only be able to take in all the scenic views, but also learn about the town’s history. Segway tours are approved for all fitness levels, but are not recommended for pregnant travelers.
This is a totally unique and super fun opportunity! Your family can take lessons and learn how to sail the waters of Lake Michigan. Classes are offered for ages 7+ and all skill levels. You can also try windsurfing, paddle boarding and private classes. Grab your sunscreen and head to the beach for this one of a kind adventure!
Treat yourself and your family to the delicious ice cream at South Pier Parlor! This vintage themed ice cream parlor will have your taste buds watering with all their flavors and menu options. After grabbing yourself a scoop of deliciousness to indulge in, head outside to take the lakefront views in. I highly recommend ordering a banana split and a selfie for the full experience.
