Volunteering is a great way to give back to the local community and can even help boost your own morale. But it’s also a great way to enhance your college application! As a high school senior photographer, I know that some local high schools also require a specific number of volunteer hours to graduate. If you’re searching for volunteer opportunities in Green Bay, then you’re in the right place! Below I’ve created a list of some great places to volunteer in the Green Bay community!
If you’re interested in working in the healthcare field, this is the place to be! Volunteering at Bellin is a great way to not only boost your college application, but also get real world experience directly from the medical field. Bellin is nationally recognized as the region’s heart center and they excel in advanced specialty care, improving public health, and delivering life altering medical treatments. They’ve been serving our community for over 100 years and are partners with the Green Bay Packers, making them extremely reputable. Bellin has a wide variety of volunteer opportunities available that will match your skills to their needs. Some of their volunteer positions include pharmacy aide, service assistant, hospital support, clerical support, community event support and more!
Do you love working outside and flowers? Then Green Bay Botanical Gardens is the perfect volunteer opportunity in Green Bay for you! As a flower lover myself, this is my favorite option haha. The botanical gardens is most known for their gorgeous gardens filled to the brim with flowers and their year round experiences. And no, you don’t have to get your hands dirty to volunteer here if that’s not your thing haha. They have so many different opportunities besides gardening, including education, greeting guests for events and weddings, special events, maintenance and more. It’s a great opportunity to volunteer in the community and get outside. Plus you’ll have gorgeous views all day long, no matter what season it is.
If you’re passionate about helping your community with affordable housing, want experience with construction or just like working with your hands, then Habitat for Humanity is your organization! This amazing non-profit has a greater impact than the homes they build, they also build the community around them into a more stable environment. Construction positions for volunteering vary and you actually don’t need direct experience. They’ll teach you everything you need to know! If construction isn’t your vibe, but you still love the message behind Habitat For Humanity, you can consider volunteering with ReStore as a cashier, donation assistant, recycling assistant or other special projects. You can make a direct impact to the families in the community by volunteering at Habitat For Humanity, making this a super rewarding opportunity!
If you’re wanting a career that works with children, then this may be the right volunteer opportunity for you! The YMCA is all about helping their community in spirit, mind and body. They aren’t just a fitness center, but they also put a huge emphasis on youth development and healthy living. There are a couple of different volunteer opportunities in Green Bay at the YMCA. They have program volunteers that work with Y staff to run programs, services and activities. And they also have event volunteers that help the Y with any of the many community events they host throughout the year. Just a quick note, it’s required for any volunteer under the age of 18 to have written consent of a parent before volunteering at the YMCA. Also, you don’t have to be a member of the YMCA to volunteer either. For more about their volunteer opportunities and to apply check out their website.
Calling all nature lovers! You’re going to love the chance to volunteer at Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary. This wildlife refuge has animal exhibits, hiking trails, wildlife viewing and everything in between. Their mission is to provide an urban wildlife refuge where the community can interact with nature. They have a huge array of volunteer positions including animal care, critter counter, invasive species management, gift shop attendant, special events and more! If you’re looking for volunteer opportunities in Green Bay that are outdoors and directly involved with nature, then this is perfect for you!
I hope this helped you as you search for more volunteer opportunities in Green Bay. I know that as a high school student your schedule is already packed full, but it’s so important to get those volunteer hours in! Not only do you potentially need them to graduate, but they’ll also help separate you from other college applicants. Not only are you helping yourself by volunteering, but you’re also making a huge difference in your community.
